Just an observation. When I used to play MSTS, route addons seemed to cover a larger area than train simulator DLC with more branch lines. They would also come with more stock, often including all the AI stock you would expect to see on that line IRL. This made the experience much more immersive and greatly increased opportunities for exploration and scenario creation. Two examples that come to mind:Dorset Coast Route for MSTS (Freeware) - This was centred around the South West Mainline from London to Weymouth but had an extraordinary array of branches like the Portsmouth Direct Line and various suburban lines out of Waterloo.

I don’t think I I ever fully explored the route.GEML London to Ipswich (later Norwich) by Making Tracks - Centred around the core GEML but including the branches to Upminster, Southend, Southminster, Clapton, Sudbury, Walton and Harwich. + Loads of stock. The equivalent route for Train Simulator only has Braintree and Felixstowe and just came with the Class 360.Does anyone else feel that train simulator DLC is quite poor value for money by comparison? It often just has a relatively short point to point route. Examples include WCML Trent Valley and Peterborough - London ECML. The Trent Valley Route didn’t even come with the Pendolino included!
Then several new developments occurred: The Empire State Express was withdrawn from the file library, and it was announced an updated version would be available for sale, Abacus released a set of payware locomotives, with a free route download, and a new concept known as payware add-ons for MSTS was born.
There also don’t seemed to be many scenarios bundled. Having paid £25 for a DLC, you then need to invest even more money on trains and download additional scenarios just to have a realistic experience that you won’t get bored of after five minutes. The only thing that Train Simulator routes have in their favour is graphical quality.
In all other areas, the old MSTS addons seem to beat it!Any thoughts? Any recommendations for U.K. Routes with extensive branches and included AI stock for TS2019?.
